Farm Sanctuary Revisited

It is the heart of winter in New England and I am sitting by my friend's wood stove soaking up the particles of heat that radiate out from the flickering flames. Through the glass door the fire is mesmerizing, but nothing warms my heart more than happy animals.

I photographed a vegan wedding at Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen last June, and captured some amazing photos for the brides. During the edit I set aside all the photos I took of the animals by themselves, many of them after the ceremony had ended. As the hustle and bustle of my life took over I kind of forgot about them.

It was a nice surprise to rediscover them in February, and to find that there are some gems amongst them. A little like Christmas, or an early valentine.

I ran into Mike and Wendy Stura at the Farm, who were visiting the calf that Mike rescued earlier that year, named Michael after his rescuer.

My dear friend and animal caretaker Susie Coston was also there to introduce me to the animals and have sweet moments with them for me to photograph.
