Come join us at Coney Island to clean up the beach!
Each year millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans. Certified yoga teachers and acromonkeys Siewli Stark and Pashupa Goodwin want to help clean up some of the trash left behind by beach-goers as a service to the community. Come join us in preventing a small amount of that waste from going into our water, while making a shared community space look a little nicer. Maybe our actions will inspire mindfulness in others!
Making mandalas and geometric shapes with our bodies
Before we clean the beach, Siewli and Pashupa will lead a short yoga class where we will warm up and then work in groups to create fun shapes with our bodies. No yoga experience necessary, but expect some playfull stretching!
Yoga 3-3:45 PM: You can bring a yoga mat but its not required. Expect to get a little sandy. Maybe bring a change of clothes. There are watering areas to clean up.
Beach Cleanup 3:45-5PM: Large garbage bags will be provided. Feel free to bring used plastic shopping bags to collect trash with. Also useful but not required: gloves, trowels or small shovels, pocket knifes, buckets.
Please RSVP on our EventBrite page so we know you are planning to come. Donations to protect our oceans may be made to benefit the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society when you RSVP, or in person.
Look for us in front of the Education Hall Boardwalk wall "inspire people to protect our waters" mural pictured above, located between the Scream Zone at Luna Park and the New York Aquarium on the Riegelmann Boardwalk. We will be on the boardwalk or on the beach in front of it.
Day of Event: Call or text Pashupa at 413-320-1001 to find us, or let us know you are on the way!
